Gielle also supports its customers in the conversion of existing systems, with a clear understanding of the high levels of performance that the market demands today, in an environmentally friendly manner and in compliance with the latest regulations.
Gielle, operating in full compliance with current regulations, offers services for the complete management of the conversion of systems containing HCFCs, and in particular R 22.
The Montreal Protocol established that ozone-depleting substances (ODS), including CFCs and HCFCs, are to be gradually phased out of all uses worldwide.
European Regulation 2037/2000 and the subsequent Regulation 1005/2009 set the dates and procedures for the phase-out of the refrigerants most harmful to the ozone layer.
In particular, virgin HCFCs, including R 22 gas, may no longer be used or sold for the maintenance of systems as from 1 January 2010; from that date, in fact, maintenance work on systems may only be carried out with recycled or reclaimed products.
The use of recycled or reclaimed R 22 gas is permitted only until 31 December 2014.
Current Italian and EU legislation therefore provides that virgin HCFCs extracted from air-conditioning or refrigeration systems during retrofit or final decommissioning of the system are to be classified as “Hazardous Special Waste”.
The same applies to stocks that are no longer used or can no longer legally be used for topping up existing systems.
Such waste may not be released into the atmosphere or reused in other systems, but must be delivered to the Collection and Treatment Centres established pursuant to Law 549/93 and the subsequent Ministerial Decree (D.M.) of 3.10.2001.
Gielle, a Collection and Treatment Centre, holds the necessary authorisations and is a signatory to a Programme Agreement with the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Economic Development for the collection and treatment of ozone-depleting substances such as CFCs and HCFCs.
Gielle provides a specialised package of services and products for the conversion of R 22 systems, such as:
Analysis of refrigerants (R 22) contained in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems
Technical intervention to drain waste R 22 refrigerant from air-conditioning and refrigeration systems
Supply of large, medium and small equipment for draining waste R 22 refrigerant from air-conditioning and refrigeration systems
Supply of portable devices and stationary systems for detecting leaks of substances that deplete the stratospheric ozone layer
Provision of containers dedicated to the storage of waste R 22 refrigerant
Collection of waste R 22 refrigerant
Disposal of waste R 22 refrigerant
Gielle offers the complete management of spent refrigerant fluids, guaranteeing the procedures and documentation required by law and issuing a declaration certifying the delivery and subsequent treatment of the refrigerant fluids at its own Collection and Treatment Centre.
Gielle is also able to supply a wide range of Replacement Refrigerants (ODP 0) designed to meet different needs.
R 407A – the Lower-GWP Alternative Refrigerant
Gielle is pleased to present R 407A refrigerant for the conversion of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, as a replacement for R 22 and R 404A refrigerants and as a lower-GWP alternative refrigerant.
The advantages of R 407A refrigerant are:
Availability: freely available internationally
Approvals: approved by the major compressor manufacturers
Performance: wide application range
Energy Efficiency: often better efficiency compared with alternative refrigerants such as R 404A
Refrigerating Capacity: comparable to that of R 404A refrigerant in the relevant application range
Environmental Impact: lower GWP compared with alternative refrigerants such as R 404A.
