The R449A gas is a zeotropic HFO refrigerant that offers excellent cooling properties, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. It is a perfect replacement for R404A, among other refrigerants.
Thanks to its low GWP, R449A is also a sustainable solution. R449A was designed for use in low- and medium-temperature commercial and industrial applications with direct expansion. R449A can achieve a GWP 65% lower than R404A.
R449A gas applications and use
R449A gas is a suitable replacement for the refrigerants R404A, R407A / F and R507. It can be used in new installations and as a direct replacement gas in existing systems. As there are some variations in capacity and power, this must always be taken into account with regard to operation, application and retrofitting.
Among other applications, R449A is used in commercial and industrial refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.
In a test scenario (see the link to the case study publication below), R404A and R449A were found to have equally high energy consumption at low temperatures. At higher temperatures (32 °C), the energy consumption of R449A was 4% lower than that of R404A.
With R449A, the compressor discharge temperature was higher, but still remained within reasonable limits in the application in question. The mass flow rate was also lower, which is why the condition of the cooling system piping must be taken into account when retrofitting.
