R448A gas is an azeotropic blend, classified as a non-flammable replacement refrigerant with a low GWP value. It was designed to replace R404A (and R22) in low- and medium-temperature systems, such as supermarket refrigeration solutions and mains-connected vending machines, and so on.
R448A gas is an excellent replacement for R404A (and R449A), as it maintains almost the same cooling capacity and improves efficiency. The GWP, in turn, falls significantly from 3,920 to 1,386. Where the evaporating temperature is low, cooling capacity drops by 10-15% but efficiency is improved.
R448A gas applications and use
R448A is a suitable replacement gas for R404A systems. It can be used in new installations and as a direct replacement gas in existing systems. As there are some variations in capacity and power, this must always be taken into account with regard to operation, application and retrofitting.
R448A has been used, for example, in supermarket refrigeration systems and vending machines.
