The most important feature of the refrigerant R452B gas is currently a GWP 67% lower than R410A for low-temperature applications. With its power and capacity, it is also an excellent replacement, involving only a small system redesign or investment cost. Its closely matching characteristics also speed up the transition to refrigerants with a lower GWP value.
The discharge temperature of R452B is much lower than that of R32 and very close to that of R410A. R452B also has a lower mass flow rate than R410A. This leads, for example, to a lower pressure drop. R410A consists of a blend of R32 + R125 in a 50/50 ratio. The HFO refrigerant R452B consists of the same substances with the addition of 26% R1234yf. R32: 67% and R125: 7%.
R452B gas applications and use
R452B gas is the optimum R410A replacement, offering the best energy efficiency and the lowest A2L flammability. – Although both of the above have low ignition temperatures, the slightly lower ignition heat of R452B is relevant when selecting the refrigerant for larger charge sizes. (Such as rooftop units and VRF systems). Thanks to its higher critical temperature (77.1 °C) and wider range of applications, R452B outperforms other options at low evaporating temperatures.
Performance, safety and environmental benefits
The refrigerant R452B offers an optimum balance of performance, safety and design compatibility to replace R410A:
Improved performance: up to 5% better energy efficiency than R410A
Excellent performance in high ambient conditions
Very low flammability properties, class 2L
Equipment adaptability: close match to R410A with minimal modifications
67% GWP reduction compared with R410A
Very low temperature glide
Alternative refrigerants to R452B gas
Replacement or alternatives: R32.
