The refrigerant R407C gas has a good energy efficiency ratio, as well as a low compression pressure and GWP. As an ozone-friendly refrigerant, it was used in the past as a replacement for R22.
When R22 is replaced, the system must always be switched to POE (polyolester) oil. In all retrofit situations, the correct refrigerant must be selected after careful consideration of the situation and conditions as a whole.
Owing to its relatively high GWP value, however, R407C will be replaced by refrigerants with a lower GWP value.
The use of R407C will be banned from 1 January 2020 because its GWP exceeds 150 (the GWP of R407C is 1,732), and in single-split A/C systems from 1 January 2025 because its GWP exceeds 750.
R407C gas applications and use
R407C is a refrigerant blend commonly used in air-conditioning systems, water-cooling equipment and, for example, in high- and medium-temperature cooling solutions on ships. It is most frequently used in refrigeration systems with scroll, reciprocating or screw compressors.
Alternative refrigerants to R407C gas
Replacements or alternative refrigerants for R407C include R32 and R444B, as well as various other HFO refrigerant blends.
