R422D gas is an easy-to-use, ozone-friendly HFC refrigerant. It was originally designed to replace R22 in many air-conditioning and refrigeration applications.
Studies have shown that the COP of R422D is around 20% higher than that of R22 (COP, CoP, CP = coefficient of performance).
Because of its high GWP value, however, it will be replaced by refrigerants with a lower GWP.
R422D applications and use
For example, cooling and air-conditioning applications in residential buildings, low- and medium-temperature direct-expansion cooling applications, department store systems, stationary DX air-conditioning applications and DX water chillers.
The GWP of R422D gas is 2,729 (> 2,500), which means that its use for servicing will be banned from 1 January 2020 for charges of at least 40 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. However, use for servicing will still be permitted for recycled or reclaimed refrigerant.
Alternative refrigerants to R422D gas
Replacements or alternative refrigerants are, e.g.: R417A, R422A, R424A, R427A, R434A, R437A, R438A
